Changnan Objects began with a simple question: why should beautiful objects from China feel difficult to discover, understand, or bring into everyday life?

My name is Booker Zhang. I was born in Jingdezhen, a city shaped by generations of ceramic work. Growing up around porcelain taught me to look closely: at the balance of a cup, the weight of a bowl, the way a glaze changes in daylight, and the small decisions that make an object comfortable to use.

A city of making

Jingdezhen is best known for porcelain, but its deeper lesson is patience. A finished piece carries the visible result of many choices: form, proportion, surface, firing, and the hands that guide each stage. That way of seeing continues to shape how we choose objects for Changnan.

We share these stories because a product is more than a photograph and a price. Context helps you understand what you are buying, how it may fit into your routine, and why it deserves a place on your table or desk.

Small rituals, thoughtfully chosen

Our edits focus on useful objects with character: a cup for a quiet morning, a bowl for an unhurried meal, or a small gift selected with another person in mind. Some pieces begin in Jingdezhen; others are found elsewhere in China. Each selection is presented with the information we can verify, so the object can speak for itself.

Changnan Objects is a work in progress. As we meet more makers and learn more about the objects we share, we will keep adding stories that make the distance between China and your home feel a little smaller.
