Hand-Painted Blue-and-White Cat Gaiwan – 110ml Tea Bowl

A hand-painted blue-and-white gaiwan with a cheerful cat — a two-piece lidded tea bowl in fine white porcelain, thin-walled so it stays comfortable to hold. 110ml, for a quiet cup at the desk or on the tea table.

Craft & Materials

Made in Jingdezhen in underglaze blue-and-white (青花): the cat is painted by hand under the glaze, then fired so the design stays crisp and food-safe. The body is a fine white porcelain clay — thin, even, and light in the hand.

The Gaiwan

A gaiwan is the classic Chinese lidded tea bowl — brew, then tip the lid to pour. This is a two-piece gaiwan (lid and bowl) in 110ml, sized for a single cup of tea. The thin wall keeps the rim cool enough to hold without burning your fingers.

The Cat Motif

The blue-and-white cat is drawn in the loose, “healing” style loved in Chinese tea circles — a round, easy-going cat that turns a plain cup into a small daily comfort.

Brewing

• Add 3–5g of tea leaves to the bowl
• Pour hot water (about 90–95°C for most teas)
• Set the lid, steep a few seconds, and pour through the gap between lid and bowl

Care

• Hand wash to protect the hand-painted surface
• Rinse with warm water and air-dry
• Avoid abrasive scrubbers

A Quiet Cup

A gaiwan is tea at its simplest: leaves, water, and a small bowl that does the rest. This one brings a hand-painted cat along for the ritual — thin-walled, easy to hold, and made for slow mornings.
