A hand-painted peony collection for tea and coffee, in the Purple Mist Peony (紫烟牡丹) pattern — a gaiwan, five cups, a teapot, a teapot stand, a stemmed fruit dish, and a coffee cup with saucer. Every piece is listed as its own option, so you can buy the one you want or build the set over time.
The Purple Mist Peony
Purple Mist Peony joins two images from classical China. 紫烟, “purple mist,” is the soft haze poets wrote about rising off the mountains; 牡丹, the peony, is the “king of flowers,” the blossom of wealth, honor, and good fortune. Painted together by hand, the peony unfurls in quiet mauves and purples across white porcelain.
The Peony
In China the peony is more than a flower — it is an emblem of prosperity and grace, celebrated in painting and poetry for more than a thousand years. On porcelain it has stayed a favorite because it is bold enough to carry a whole surface, yet soft enough to live with every day.
The Pieces
Each piece is sold on its own; choose from the options:
- Xifu Gaiwan, 140ml
- Misheng Cup, 70ml
- Lingying Cup, 80ml
- Hezhan Cup, 85ml
- Zhukou Cup, 180ml
- Ningya Cup, 100ml
- Teapot Stand
- Stemmed Fruit Dish
- Coffee Cup & Saucer, 210ml
- Teapot, 170ml
Craft & Materials
The pieces are hand-painted in Jingdezhen from fine white porcelain, with a smooth food-safe glaze over the brushwork. Because each piece is painted by hand, the peony's strokes — the fall of a petal, the bend of a stem — vary slightly from one to the next.
A Gift for a Friend
The collection began as a “gift for a best friend” (送闺蜜), and it still works that way: start someone with a cup or the gaiwan, then let the set grow for birthdays and housewarmings to come. A peony is a wish for good fortune, painted where they will see it every morning.
Care
- Hand wash to protect the hand-painted surface
- Rinse with warm water after use and air-dry
- Avoid abrasive scrubbers
A Quiet Cup
Purple Mist Peony is tea and coffee at its most considered — a peony in bloom at the bottom of a cup, a gaiwan that pours clean, a teapot that makes an ordinary afternoon feel like an occasion. Made in Jingdezhen, painted by hand, and meant to be used.
